Girls Can’t Play Football?

29th January 2020A Gill

Local Children’s Author David Waugh’s Visit

We were fortunate enough to receive a visit today from a fantastic local author – David Waugh.  David spent the morning with children from Years 5 and 6 who thoroughly enjoyed their time with him.  They read excerpts and did activities based on several of David’s books: Lottie’s Run, Twins?, Girls Can’t Play Football, Jessica’s World and Jack and the Roof Thieves and more.  Well done Years 5 and 6 for a super morning which has motivated us all to pick up a book or two and get reading and special thanks to David for his time and inspiration!

Food to The People’s Kitchen

13th December 2019A Gill

Food to The People’s Kitchen

Our School Council helped load the van full of food and toiletries to be taken to the Peoples’ Kitchen in Newcastle. There it will be used to feed and assist the homeless on the streets of Newcastle. These homeless people are from all over our region and they will be helped by the generosity of the families at Hedworth Lane School.

We’ve Got Gold!

24th September 2019A Gill

We’ve achieved School Games Mark Gold!

We would like to share the good news that after a great deal of effort and hard work by staff and pupils alike, we have been accredited with our School Games Mark award and it is a Gold!

The School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Participating in this process allows schools to evaluate their PE provision and assists them in developing an action plan for future progress.

The children have really enjoyed the focus on games and PE over the last 2 years. Staff have worked hard and have provided a broad range of activities and experiences and Mrs. Simpson, our PE and Games School Co-ordinator, has led our school from strength to strength.

Have a look at our website to find out what we have been doing over the year. There are lots of photos there too. Perhaps your child is there?
