Intent Statement – Science
It is our intention at Hedworth Lane Primary School that we continue to build a Science Curriculum which develops children’s learning of science whilst developing a questioning mind about the many ways in which science influences everyday life.
Our investigative science encourages children to ask important questions about how things work and why things happen in certain ways. Ultimately, this helps children to understand the world they are growing up in and provides them with life skills to better access it as well as becoming creative thinkers and adults who strive to seek solutions to problems and answers to life’s questions.
Alongside scientific knowledge and the understanding of concepts, we hope that our children will develop curiosity and excitement about the natural world and use their skills to understand how science can be used today and in the future.
We strive to promote joy and excitement for learning which our children can use in all other areas of the curriculum and ultimately of life. We want our children to experience many WOW moments and be able to approach unknown and unexplainable phenomenon with awe and wonder.
This policy outlines the guiding principles by which this school implements science.
