Admissions

Admissions Policy

At Hedworth Lane Primary we aim to welcome children into our caring, safe community, respecting equality of opportunity for all admissions. We aim to implement a structured approach to ensure that all our families feel part of our school community. We are a neighbourhood school and follow the admissions arrangements as set out by South Tyneside Local Authority. A copy of our Admissions Policy can be found by clicking on the policy tab of our website.

Admission into Reception

We do not have a nursery at Hedworth Lane Primary School. Instead children transfer to us from a number of neighbourhood nurseries and private childcare provision across the area at the start of their Reception Year. We have close contact with all nurseries during the summer term prior to your child’s admission.

In addition to our close contact between nursery and school, parent/carer and child will be formally invited to school during summer term a number of times prior to Reception admission. This will enable you and your child to get to know the class teacher and spend some time becoming familiar with the new learning environment.

In-Year Admissions

Admissions during the year are supported by an individual programme of induction to meet the specific needs of you and your child. If you are considering Hedworth Lane School as a school for your child you can contact our Local Authority to first verify if we have a place for your child and then contact school to arrange a visit. We would like to welcome you and your child personally to our school.

Parents and carers can find information relating to school admissions at South Tyneside’s Schools and Learning page.
