Message from Ms Nicky Houghton, Chair of Governors
Welcome to Hedworth Lane Primary School and to our website, which I hope will provide you with a good idea of all the exciting things that we have to offer and all of the things that are happening within our School.
On behalf of the Governing Board, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all pupils, parents and staff back in to school for the start of a new school year.
I have been a Governor since 2013, firstly as a Parent Governor and then as a Co-Opted Governor. I became a Vice-Chair of the Governing Board in April 2018 and in November 2018, the Governing Board elected me as the new Chair.
At Hedworth Lane, Governors and staff are committed to ensuring that all of our children receive an excellent education. We want to ensure that every child is empowered with the skills, knowledge and learning experiences they need to be the best that they can be.
Our Governing Board is made up of people from all different backgrounds including parents, school staff and people from our local community. All of whom are volunteers and have a genuine passion and commitment to Hedworth Lane Primary School.
We were delighted to welcome a new Head Teacher (Mrs Hutchinson) into our school in January 2023 and since that time has already demonstrated a high level of commitment to the role and has been working hard to identify ways in which we can build and expand on our existing good practice, to provide the best possible learning experience for all pupils.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a member of the Governing Board and I feel extremely privileged to be the Chair. In this role I work with the Governing Board, the Head Teacher and the Senior Leadership Team who are dedicated to ensuring the achieving the best possible outcomes for each child and who strive continually to improve the School.
Other duties Include:
- To provide clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction for the work to improve the performance of the school.
- To support, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the school
- To hold the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- To oversee the financial performance of the school to ensure that its money is well spent
This may sound a difficult job, but with so many excellent and committed colleagues, Governors, and pupils it makes my role an incredibly enjoyable, and rewarding one.
I am immensely proud to be part of Hedworth Lane School and I wish everyone associated with the school well for the upcoming year.
Best regards
Nicky
Ofsted says…
Governors know the school well and have a good understanding of pupils’ outcomes so they know where further work is needed. They provide appropriate levels of challenge and support to leaders. Ofsted October 2018
