A massive thank you to all of our families who raised an incredible £4446.62 for our GB athlete visit in September. The staff have been blown away by your generosity. The money will be used to buy new sports equipment for lessons and OPAL. We have received a few last minute donations so this total could be even higher!! Well done Hedworth Lane!
This afternoon, a group of children from Year 4 represented Hedworth Lane during a football tournament at Boldon School. Three teams, made up of children from Classes 4, 5 and 6, all played matches against other local schools. The children displayed real team spirit, trying their best and had a great time competing. The team from Miss Gill’s class were triumphant, winning their group and receiving a medal each. Well done!
We were thrilled to welcome GB Heptathlete Lucy Turner to Hedworth Lane to lead our sponsored sport event. The SSOC Crew and Sports Council did a wonderful job of coordinating this event.
Remember, all sponsorship money is to be in school by 6th October please.
Reception went on a ‘feely’ scavenger hunt at Forest School. We were looking for objects that were prickly, soft, hard, round, smooth and bendy.
Our topic in Reception at the moment is ‘All about me’. At Forest School this afternoon we collected our own natural materials and designed funny faces. We then had the idea to use sticks to make a body for our face. We also used clay to mould faces onto trees in our wooded area. The children got very creative with the materials they used and the faces they created.

As part of this term’s DT project, Year 5 and 6 have been thinking about ‘seasonality’ in cooking. First, they investigated which ingredients are readily available to us in each season. Then we tasted a selection of summer vegetables in order to plan our final dish…Pizza (who doesn’t love a pizza?) The children all tried things that they had never tasted before and there were some surprising results ! Finally, we created our Super Seasonal dish which included all of the new and exciting flavours that we had researched… Mmmm so tasty !
The Glee Club have worked really hard on their performance of the film Zombies this term. They put on an amazing show on Wednesday afternoon for the whole school. Well done to all of the children involved.
The children in Reception had a fabulous Early Years Graduation celebration yesterday. Well done everyone, you are all more than ready for Year 1!
