The children in Reception had their second session last week with Jess from The Early Words Program. They enjoyed playing some musical instruments and listening to the different noises that each one made. They then made their own shaker with their grown up to take home and enjoy.
Class 9 prepared ingredients for our chosen recipe, vegetable stew.. We discussed hygiene rules and talked about the need for a varied diet and applied skills that we have learnt to chop, slice and cut the ingredients to make a healthy meal! The stew was delicious and the children enjoyed their afternoon as top chefs!

Year 3 and Year 4 had a fantastic time during the Nissan Engagement Day. They learnt about the types of cars produced (Nissan make 2 every minute!) what it’s like at the Nissan factory, as well as the types of careers available there. They were very impressed that through the Graduate Scheme, you could work with robots and get paid £45,000 by the age of 21! Additionally, they took part in fun activities whilst learning the importance of teamwork and communication. In pairs, they created a car out of Lego, then drew and wrote about all their car’s amazing features. One even included unlimited McDonald’s and the ability to fly. It was an extremely fun and interesting experience!

Hedworth Lane was honoured to welcome Antony Cotterill to our school last week. During the afternoon, he encouraged all classes to get active with a fitness circuit and was supported by our brilliant SSOC Crew who motivated their classmates. Antony then shared his inspirational story and how, against all odds, he became a Paralympian and accomplished tennis star.

Hot chocolate to warm us up on a cold, snowy Forest School day.

We have been very busy over the past few weeks making Christmas cards for this year’s South Tyneside Age Concern appeal. We hope to put a smile on the faces of the members of our community that receive these cards this Christmas.

Our children across the whole school thoroughly enjoyed their problem solving and reasoning puzzle day. Here are some snippets from the day!

We had a visit to The Windmill Sambuca as part of our DT topic about whole foods. We had a cooking demonstration by the chef, who showed us how to make three different pasta sauces. He talked about the ingredients and explained how to cook the sauce to make a healthy pasta meal. We then got to sample one of the sauces mixed with pasta for our lunch. We were all well fed and had a great time. Thank you to all of the staff at Sambuca for a fantastic experience!

Our Year 3 and 4 children enjoyed having their grown ups in to play a variety of maths games with them yesterday. Thank you to everyone who attended!
