Class 1 had an amazing time during their session today testing their stamina, coordination and resilience! A special mention to Rose, Layla-Rose and Caitlyn who earned ‘Skipping Ninja Status’ during our session. Well done.
We have been extremely busy in Forest School this term preparing our garden for the beginning of the planting season. So far we have planted wildflower seeds, herbs, beetroot, carrot and peas. We are enjoying watching our seeds to begin to grow into small shoots. We can’t wait until our poly tunnel is up and we can begin to plant even more!
We’re also very pleased to have been awarded the RHS Level 2 School Gardening Award. We’re already working towards achieving our Level 3!
Thank you for your support for our recent bake sale. All the children enjoyed the cakes and we have raised nearly £630.
On Thursday, Reception walked to the post box on Hedworth Lane to post some very important letters. We looked at our route on Google Maps beforehand so we knew where we were going and looked forward to seeing some familiar places such as the church, fish and chip shop and the local shop. When we got to the post box we drew a map of everything we had seen on our way.
Our School Shines at South Tyneside Primary School Cross Country!

The course was tough, but our incredible children gave it their all, showing determination, resilience, and fantastic team spirit. A special congratulations goes to Martha, who stormed to victory in the Year 3 girls’ race, beating a field of over 20 runners—what an achievement! We are so proud of every single one of our young athletes for their hard work and dedication. Well done, team! ♂️♀️

Year 6 had a fantastic and eye-opening visit to SafetyWorks!, an interactive safety centre serving the Tyne & Wear community. Through hands-on activities and realistic scenarios, they learned vital lessons about everyday hazards, from staying safe near open water to understanding the age of criminal liability and avoiding anti-social behaviour. The sessions highlighted how the choices we make as children can impact future opportunities, including job prospects They also explored the dangers of metro and railway lines, reinforcing the importance of staying alert and making safe decisions in all aspects of life.
Today we had a very special visitor in school. Andrea, our OPAL Mentor, joined us to present the staff with their certificate to celebrate that Hedworth Lane Primary School is now a ‘GOLD’ OPAL School! Andrea spoke with the children about how playtimes have developed and thanked the whole staff team for their hard work.
Class 6 had a wonderful World Book Day starting with a BBC live lesson. We then completed a review of our favourite Roald Dahl book and became illustrators as we redesigned a new front cover for our book. In the afternoon, we became Willy Wonka himself be designing our own new chocolate bars including the wrapper they would be sold in.
