Dodgeball!

6th February 2024Claire Hutchinson

Year 5 have been practising their dodgeball skills this term in PE and they got to put them into practice at Boldon School today whilst taking part in a dodgeball tournament. What an amazing job everyone did too ! We had two winning teams that walked away with medals – one of which were undefeated champions on the day. Everyone received a special certificate for taking part as well and there were happy faces all around. Well done Hedworth Lane!

Class 6 DT

By Claire Hutchinson1st February 2024

This week class 6 have been investigating cam mechanisms in DT. Today we made our very own mechanism and used our critical thinking and teamwork skills to build the model with no instructions using only a premade model as a reference. As you can see they all did an amazing job!

Class 2 Dogs’ Trust

1st February 2024Claire Hutchinson

Today we had a visit from the staff at Dogs Trust.  We were told our “ABCS” to help us understand dog behaviour.

A = Affection

B = Busy

C = Choice

S = Signals

We found out that you have to make sure you share the right type of affection when your dog is not busy and always give them a choice to leave, watching their signals to know if the dog is happy or not.  We took part in role plays to act out different situations where you would interact with your dog to see if we followed the ABCS.

A great time was had by all!

Class 7 Forest School

29th January 2024Claire Hutchinson

Class 7 have been building shelters big and small over the past few weeks. Last week they made shelters for wildlife that might visit our Forest School site. They were very proud that their shelters survived the recent storm and couldn’t wait to see if they’re homes had had any visitors. This week they were challenged to make an outdoor play den. Miss Roberts was so impressed with their teamwork and problem solving. They also found some time to dig for treasure on the digging hill before the end of the day.

Animation magic 📷

24th January 2024Michelle Watson
Year 3/4 had a fantastic time making Lego models to use as part of their Stop Frame Animation topic in computing. They worked collaboratively in teams, each taking on roles to successfully create their animation. They carefully made slight movements to their scene and characters, taking photographs after each adjustment. They used the app StikBot to create their animation masterpieces which allowed them to use green screen technology to use exciting backgrounds as settings. Did you know? 12 pictures are equivalent to 1 second of film! We are excited to share the finished animation with you soon. StikBot is a free app that the children can enjoy to create more amazing animations which we would love to see should they decide to have a go at home.

That’s a wrap on Christmas for Choir!

23rd December 2023admin

Choir completed their festive program with a roof raising performance on Thursday 14th December. They sang their Christmas socks off and left me completely speechless at the sound. I am so proud of the Choir and the children’s commitment to every event we do. They made my last Christmas at Hedworth Lane extra special!

I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to you all for your kind words, cards and gifts. The Choir has been my pride and joy. Many of my best memories of my time at Hedworth Lane are musical ones. I wish the Choir lots of luck for the future and hope that they continue to love singing together in 2024.

Merry Christmas to you all!

Miss Jago
