On Friday, children in Class 7 wrote to Mrs Hutchinson asking for a book. They had read part of it in their Guided Reading session and were keen to know more! Well…today the books have arrived and have been passed on to the children.

Hedworth Lane is celebrating Chinese New Year today. The photographs from today’s workshop will be uploaded later on, but thanks to our wonderful kitchen staff who prepared a delicious Chinese inspired menu!

Today, Y3/4 took part in a Nissan Engagement Day. Our visitors helped them learn all about the Nissan factory itself and what is manufactured there. Did you know? Nissan has a workforce of 6,000 and is capable of producing 500,000 cars! The children were able to explore the range of cars the plant produces and were impressed to find out that Nissan aims to electrify all 3 models they produce by 2030: the Duke, Qashqai and the Leaf.

Year 3 and 4 pupils have had an amazing week at Simonside Climbing Wall. They used the climbing wall and rope swings to build resilience, coordination and balance as well as teamwork. It was great to see the children encouraging their peers and overcoming their worries to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.
Here are some more photos from our sessions with the Dogs’ Trust. Year 3 and 4 had a great time learning their ABCs
Class 3 enjoyed tasting different seasonal vegetables. They have researched different recipes and will be making a healthy, seasonal soup next week.

Year 5 and 6 attended a dress rehearsal of Boldon School’s performance of Matilda on Tuesday afternoon. It was amazing to see so many former pupils of Hedworth Lane either taking on a key acting role or being an integral part of the stage crew. The performance was fantastic – well done to all those involved at Boldon School.
Class 9 have been designing collographs with different textured materials and using them to make different patterns and prints during rain and sun rays topic.
On Safer Internet Day 2024, Class 2 looked at ‘persuasive design techniques’. Did you know that designers use all kinds of persuasive techniques to make us spend our time and money? We learned about streaks that keep us coming back, pop ups that make us think something is urgent and time-limited offers that make us worry about missing out if we don’t act now! We all thought about the ones that affect us and how we can be mindful of them. Well done Class 2!
