Rock Steady

21st January 2026Claire Hutchinson

What a musical day we had!

We were treated to a range of band performances featuring drums, guitars, keyboards, bass and vocalists, with children working together, supporting one another and showcasing the musical skills they have been developing.

The enthusiasm and teamwork on display made it a joy to watch, and the confidence shown by all the performers was truly impressive.

Early Words Together

21st January 2026Claire Hutchinson

This week some of our Reception children took part in their first ‘Early Words’ session.

They listened to a story called ‘what’s in the box’ and then had great fun using arts and crafts to make their very own box, using their imagination to create a story around it.

Well done everyone! Can’t wait to see what you get up to next week!

A huge congratulations to Zayan, our Slam Poetry Competition winner!
Zayan wowed us all with a powerful and expressive original version of “Chocolate Cake” that was full of energy, emotion, and creativity.

Judged on expression, clarity, and gestures, Zayan’s performance stood out for its confidence and flair — truly bringing the words to life.

Fantastic work, Zayan! We can’t wait to see what you perform next.

Positive Noticing Day 2025

16th November 2025Claire Hutchinson

Earlier this week, the whole school took part in Positive Noticing Day, a celebration all about recognising the good in ourselves and others, taking time to see and appreciate the positive qualities, efforts and talents in everyone.

The day’s goal was to encourage a culture of positive recognition and to acknowledge and appreciate the positive actions of others, helping to build kindness and connection across our school. We started by asking our pupils to reflect on moments when they had been positively noticed: How did it make you feel? What difference did it make in your life? Has anyone ever noticed a special talent of yours?

Children and staff shared thoughtful and heart warming reflections about times they felt valued, important and motivated by the kindness of others. We had planned for each child to write just one positive message, but they were so inspired and enthusiastic that they ended up writing many more! The staff were also very touched to receive many positive messages, which brought smiles to their faces. It was a joy to read the uplifting messages pupils wrote for one another and even more wonderful to see every child proudly wearing their positive notes throughout the day. We hope you enjoyed reading them, too.

Reception’s Remembrance Walk

14th November 2025Kayleigh Ainsworth

Class 10 and 11 walked to Boldon Colliery memorial this week to pay our respects and lay down our poppy wreath. We loved seeing the many poppies attached to the lampposts on the way and looking at the many wreaths that had already been laid on Remembrance Sunday from different members of the community. We now have a better understanding of Remembrance Day and the significance of the poppy.

Pumpkin Competition

5th November 2025Kayleigh Ainsworth

The Arts council had the extremely hard job of judging this year’s pumpkin carving competition. One of our favourite Hedworth Lane traditions. The designs get more and more creative each year and never ceases to amaze us!

Thank you and a big well done to everybody for their spooky efforts. An extra big well done to our 11 class winners too.
