Reception collected carrots that have been growing in Forest School to make a lovely Autumn carrot soup. They really impressed us with their sensible cutting skills. The soup was lovely to warm us up on a chilly Autumn morning.
We had a lovely walk around Boldon to look for signs of Autumn. We found lots of beautiful coloured leaves of all shapes and sizes.
Year 5 and 6 had an amazing time performing their slam poems to an audience this morning! Topics ranged from football, Halloween, friends and even fossils!
Students were scored against criteria including clear intonation, eye contact and mimes/gestures. The highest scoring poets performed again trying to elevate their performance. The audience then voted for their favourite via clapometer volume!
Our winner was Zayan with his version of ‘Chocolate Cake’ with Scarlett was our runner up with her passionate poem about all things Disney.
As part of our childhood unit in History, we are looking at changes in time, particularly life in the 1950s. We had two special visitors from Beamish today who brought lots of artefacts that the children were able to handle and learn about. They also learned about music in the 1950s and were taught how to do the hand-jive!

Class 1 Year 6 Visit to Temple Park Fire Station – RAP Event
On Friday afternoon, our Year 6 pupils visited Temple Park Fire Station to take part in the RAP (Reducing Accidents at Play) event.
During the visit, pupils listened to a range of important safety messages delivered by representatives from Nexus, Northern Powergrid, the RNLI, the Road Safety Team, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, and Northumbria Police.
The sessions helped pupils understand how to stay safe in different situations — at home, near water, on the roads, and in the community. It was an informative and engaging afternoon, and our pupils represented the school brilliantly!
A group of year 5/6 children represented Hedworth Lane at a bowling tournament. They had a fantastic morning and came away with 4th overall out of numerous schools. A special well done to Thea who achieved the highest overall score of 124 points!
Last week we recognised Kindness Week by taking part in a whole school assembly. We then tried our best to spread kindness to others throughout the week. We took part in an activity in our classes, where we drew around our hands then our friends wrote kind things about us on each finger. This made sure we were passing kindness to each other.
Exploring Air Resistance in Science
In Science this week, pupils investigated air resistance by designing and testing their own parachutes. They experimented with different canopy sizes, string lengths, and canopy shapes to see how each factor affected the parachute’s fall.
This hands-on activity helped pupils understand how air resistance works as a type of friction, linking perfectly with our current topic on forces. There were some fantastic designs and lots of great scientific thinking!
