ELKLAN was born out of a passion for supporting children and young people with speech, language and communication needs.
Early Years at Hedworth Lane Primary is in the process of becoming an accredited ELKLAN provider that supports the communication and language of all children.
Due to the dedication and hard work of the EYFS team, we are proud to be on the way to becoming a ‘communication friendly setting’. Our staff are now equipped with the knowledge, skills and strategies to create a setting that enhances and develops children’s communication, creating a rich learning environment for all and supporting children who have communication needs.
At Hedworth Lane Primary School, we value the importance of conversation between adults and children; giving them time to listen, respond and grow.
Class 7 had a brilliant time with Andrew and All Stars cricket today, learning all new skills. The children learned different techniques such as using the bat and ball to get a goal, hand eye coordination skills by throwing the ball up in the air and catching and also throwing the ball to hit the target posts in the middle. All of class 7 showed exceptional listening skills today. Well done Class 7!

The children from Class 9 had a lot of fun participating in their cricket taster yesterday! Andrew from Boldon CC delivered an exciting and fun introductory session for All Stars Cricket. The children developed their throwing, catching and batting skills, as well as their ability to work as part of a team. They showed excellent sportsmanship and had a fantastic introduction to cricket!

Some of our Year 6 pupils took part in a fun ten pin bowling event in Sunderland organised by Panathlon UK on Monday. The children had a great time and they earned a well-deserved medal each.

Classes 1 and 2 were busy last week replying to our penpals in our partner schools. We received some beautiful postcards from the children at Dulwich College showing us their Chinese Zodiac artwork. The children in Year 5 and 6 also made Easter cards to send to Good Samaritan School in Uganda, Dulwich College in Singapore and Ecole Elementaire Anatole in France.
We are thrilled to announce that the SSOC Crew’s Bake Sale on Friday raised a phenomenal £900!
We are sending some of the money raised to our partner school in Uganda. Today the Head Teacher of the school contacted us to say that they were going to use the donation to purchase a new computer and printer! Mr Ssennyama, the Head Teacher, said:
“Thank you so much for all your effort and resources you invested into making an amazing bake sale. Please also extend our thanks to the children who responded positively and your lovely parents for their generous contribution towards the purchase of a new computer!”

The remaining money will be used to purchase resources for our OPAL playtimes – the SSOC Crew and OPAL Ambassadors will be looking to see what else we can include on our yards to make lunchtimes entertaining.
Thank you again for all your generous donations.

The girls football team played their socks off again this week. They drew two matches, lost one and won one. Everyone gave it their all and should be proud of themselves. Well done girls!
