Reception have been taking part in the RSPB Big School’s Birdwatch throughout the month of January. We have been mixing bird cakes, threading and hanging bird feeders and using binoculars to spot and count how many different birds we can see when at Forest School. We have seen seagulls, pigeons, blackbirds, robins and blue tits!

Reception’s Remembrance Walk

14th November 2025Kayleigh Ainsworth

Class 10 and 11 walked to Boldon Colliery memorial this week to pay our respects and lay down our poppy wreath. We loved seeing the many poppies attached to the lampposts on the way and looking at the many wreaths that had already been laid on Remembrance Sunday from different members of the community. We now have a better understanding of Remembrance Day and the significance of the poppy.

The Arts council had the extremely hard job of judging this year’s pumpkin carving competition. One of our favourite Hedworth Lane traditions. The designs get more and more creative each year and never ceases to amaze us!

Thank you and a big well done to everybody for their spooky efforts. An extra big well done to our 11 class winners too.

Hedgehog Homes

1st October 2025Kayleigh Ainsworth

As part of their ‘Shade and Shelter’ topic, Class 9 have been building hedgehog houses in Forest School using natural materials they have foraged themselves. They had to make sure that their home was built in a safe place, it needed to be secure and strong and protect the hedgehog from all weathers. Everybody showed amazing team working skills and were determined to keep improving their design to match the design criteria. Fantastic attention to detail and brilliant resilience when faced with set backs.
